READING
(PASSAGE)
Globalization is the growing
interdependence of the nations of the world. In one word it can be encapsulated
as the changes we are living through. We live in a world that is interconnected
as never before and where groups and individuals interact more and more directly.
Of course, globalization has its dangers. These days crime, narcotics,
terrorism, disease, weapons etc. are in greater numbers than in the past. On
the other hand, the benefits of globalization are obvious too. Faster growth,
higher living standards and new opportunities are some of the benefits which
are not only for individuals but also for better understanding between nations
and for common action. At present these opportunities are far from equal
distribution. Over a billion people are still struggling to survive on less
than one dollar a day, without safe drinking water and lack of adequate sanitation.
Some have much more basic worries, such as where their children’s next meal is
coming from while some are worried about stock market crash or are struggling
to master the latest computer.
